My Early Days

Hi, I’m Gregory Covey. I landed my first management role when I was just 16 years old because I had spent time on the floor and knew the ins and outs of the business.

After this relatively short stint as an Assistant Manager, I joined the US Marine Corps at 17 years of age. My time in the military greatly influenced my leadership and management philosophy. During this time, I learned many crucial lessons in self-improvement, commitment, mentoring, delegation, planning, and teamwork.


Working in the Private Sector

After retiring from the Marine Corps, I entered the private sector serving at the Marriott Corporation for over 12 years. I started in senior management and eventually became the Human Resources Director for the company.

During this time, I worked closely with many leading professionals in the hospitality industry and service sector. Marriott thrives on putting people first, pursuing excellence, and building employee loyalty—all excellent teachings for any small business.


Working for the Department of Veteran Affairs

In 2000, I decided to take on a new challenge and took up the role of Environmental Program Manager(EPM) at the Department of Veteran Affairs. In many ways, this work was very different from my time in the private sector.

Managing two veteran healthcare facilities with limited resources and lots of red tape isn’t easy—but if there’s one thing Marriott taught me, it was good service. I applied those same principles to my work as an EPM, and it’s been smooth sailing ever since.
